Universal Phone Charger Promised
The GSM Association on Tuesday said 17 major mobile operators and manufacturers including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Nokia, and Motorola will develop a universal charger that can be used for any phone.
The micro-USB will be the common universal charging interface, an eco-friendly device that will reduce current energy consumption by 50 percent. "If the mobile phone charger goes global, charger wastes amounting to 50,000 to 80,000 tons per year will drop dramatically," it said. "Furthermore, greenhouse gas emitted from production and transport of chargers will decrease by 8 million tons annually."
